Mike99ss and eiphoric...when your computer replaces this text in place of they apostrophe you were trying it usually means you have a virus...I would definitely scan wit AVAST or MALWAREBYTES

Whilst some computers in certain scripts can identify an*apostrophe*quite easily, others will sometimes replace the ' with an “&#39”. This is a universal code for an apostrophe, also known as HTML entities.

, HTML is often used to help deliver the payload.

HTML is just text that describes how to display data. But an HTML file can contain scripting languages, must notably Javascript, and link to other files or websites. Those scripts, other files files, and websites can be or deliver a virus.

Most modern email clients have systems in place to limit what embedded HTML can do. They can't stop you from following a bad link or downloading a file that is harmful(including a html file) , though some try.

1. I have been using AVAST PREMIUM SECURITY ever since Avast bought out AVG (c.a. October 2016), and neither one has found any viruses (not COVID-19, nor any other virus); neither has Glary Utilities "Spyware Remover". 2. "… when your computer replaces this text …": If my computer was doing the replacement, I would see that happen in the message entry window, no? But it doesn't appear there, only later, for example when I use the Preview Post feature, or after the message is posted — when the text has been processed by the forum parser engine. Oh, and I should mention that when this message was previewed, it showed the same garbage substitutions for apostrophes, emojis, the<br>for spacing between paragraphs and more, after which I had to go back and greatly simplify it (including the copy of your post).

I'm with Mr. Nash on this one. I'm suspicious that the problem is in the board parser/editor. If I use the Standard Editor, create a board post, and preview it, the post contains none of the unexpected character codes. If, before posting the same post, I switch to Enhanced Editor and preview it, most, if not all, of the funky characters appear. This is something I have no control over on my end at that point. My PC has no knowledge of what editor is being used, this is simply an editing function of the board software. Now, it's true that the Standard Editor may not interpret all of the character codes (in some cases, carriage return for example), it certainly knows how to interpret spaces, commas, apostrophes, etc. and none of those cause problems with the Standard Editor.

Also, the "Insert Image" from a URL is really messed up if I try it with the Enhanced Editor. If I insert the same image from the same source using the Standard Editor, it works like a charm.

I’m 99.99999999999% sure it’s the board. I have begun researching other discussion board software and will be dumping vBulliten. I have never liked it. The backend is just way too complicated and involved for someone that is not a computer specialist and/or programer.<br><br>So hang in there!

I'm far from any expert on computers or such
but my last PC< these things happen randomly when posting here,
just replaced with a brand new PC and things are still happening and NOT just when using an apostrophe !(they show up when I add photo's )

and I also noticed that some times if you see thing and want to correct by going to EDIT your post, things will some time magically correct themselves(as you never do anything but open the edit page) and some times NOT.

so to me that sort of says, its NOT a PC with a virus here, but something else
or I could b wrong HAHA!

John: I'm sure you are fully capable of researching discussion board software, but on the odd chance that this might be the slightest bit helpful, here's what little I know about the subject: 1. <a href="http://" https:="" forum.johndee.com="" vbulletin="" "http:="" """="" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disqus</a> - seems to be quite popular. 2. <a href="http://" https:="" forum.johndee.com="" vbulletin="" "http:="" """="" target="_blank">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog_comment_hosting_service</a> (Were those two trivial enough fer ya?) 3. <a href="https://www.blogtyrant.com/best-blog-host/" target="_blank">https://www.blogtyrant.com/best-blog-host/</a> I wish I could have formatted this post more neatly, but couldn't without introducing the usual garbage characters!
