40 inches of rain would equal how many inches of snow? Any xperts care to take a swing at it? That's how much rain we have had in the first half of 2011 aroun Cincy.

It depends

I know from reading what John has wrote in the past, that it would depend on the air temp and other variables as to how much would pile up. The colder it is the smaller the flakes are and the less that it accumulates. As a general rule, I think if you use about 10" of snow per 1" of rain, you will be close. So, you would have about 400" of snow, which would probably settle to about 60" or so, just a guess.

What a pleasant thought during this HOT crap! 1" of rain could be as much as 12" of snow, again, as mentioned, it would depend on the type of snow related to temperature. Rather than splitting hairs, I prefer to just take that 1-12 ratio, 480" sounds & looks better too!:D-Mezz
