Amazing that it's been 48 years. I had the privilege of visiting Split Rock Lighthouse in MN on this day a few years ago. As I understand, it's the only day of the year where visitors can climb up the lighthouse tower to see the lit beacon. They also rang the bell 29 times for each sailor lost on the Fitz, plus one more time (I believe?) for all sailors who have been lost on the water. I also discovered that my uncle spent a little time on the Fitz when he was much younger.
