550 Indy LXT 144

Currently riding a 2012 600 IQ LXT 2-up. Love the sled but looking to trade it in on 2 550 Indy LXT 2 ups due to a growing family. I like the 144 inch track and the "lower class" of 2 up seat and backrest isn't a concern for me. My question is if I will be disapointed going to a 550 fan with the longer track? Granted, I'm not a big off trail guy and probably won't be riding without my son on the back, but I still like to give it alone? Welcoming any thoughts.

TIA

I have a 550fan and a short track. It does okay on trails, but it has like 50hp less than the 600. I would think it would be under powered for a 2 up and the longer track.
Im trying to sell mine to get a 600 for the little i do get to go off trail, its a little light on power in the powder.

ADD TO POST:
I think that 600 Indy Voyager 144, you'd be happier with. I actually had a major engine issue with my 550 f. Even though warranty covered repair, missed possibly 5+weeks of sledding.

I've never been happy with a fan engine and quit buying them years ago. I think for a 2 up machine you will be much happier with a 600 and the resale will be much better IMO. The 550 has it's place, but it's more as a work sled with some pleasure riding, and as a result, Polaris is producing so many 550 fan options because the European market demands it. 50 hp is a lot!

I agree. I had a 550 for a GF a few years back. It was stupid slow. Even with clutch work and gearing, it was about a 65mph sled. And that was in an edge chassis 121. Probably 5mph slower in a 144 Indy chassis.

Think it depends on where you ride. Tight Wisconsin trails - it would be a hoot. Grades in th UP - no way. It's too bad the 500 liquid offends the EPA so bad - for many it was a great combo of price and performance. Doo still makes one somehow but it ain't cheap
