So it happens again and again.... Last night we got pounded with rain. 6-8 inches in places just barely to the south of me. I got 2.5 inches. Talking some creeks will be 6-10 feet over flood stage this morning. Glad I live on top of the hill. However I have a hole dug for my new house and just last evening had the sand all packed to grade ready for concrete. Now I have this... Could be worse though. Those poor people just 5 miles south of me are getting hammered.... I remember when we would get 1/2 inch rains and 1 inch was was considered plenty. Now its 2-4 inches every time it rains.... aug24th 2.5inch rain.jpg

Could be the best thing to happen to your house hole. When you get the water out of it it will be compacted right to the max. No voids period will make for no settling on the future. Everything happens for a reason. Be happy.

Wow that's crazy! I drove through that little town last summer. I thought we had been getting a lot of rain. We have gotten about 11-12" of rain in the last 9-10 days in the southwest metro of Mpls/St. Paul.

Dorchester IA. Small town just 7 miles south of me. Upper IA river flows through that valley. Flood stage is 14' and expected crest is 22'. The record is 22.5 feet set in 2008. Funny fact for all the climate change people the top 4 crests before that all happened before 1950.

It has been a strange year weather wise. The farm that I work for planted 4600 acres of red potatoes and many fields have had more than 35 inches of rain since being planted and the yearly normal is about 18 inches. Between hail and drowned out we hope to harvest only 1200 of the 4600 acres.

And the precip is going to continue all winter. We will freeze up super wet and end up with 247 inches of snow. Then on March 28 it will get up to 63 degrees and melt everything in 4 hours. The great flood of 2017 is just around the corner for the Red River Valley. You heard it here first.

O-M-G...that's awful, and a huge write-off. Does insurance cover that somehow, or not?

They have crop insurance but from what I understand it pays 80% max. It will be a huge loss even with insurance. All of the other crops are damaged also, with the edible beans being up to 2/3 damaged. We are combining wheat now and have had quite a few stuck combines.

A county to my west got 6" of rain last night too. We got about 1/2". Our growing season has been the best it's been in years around here, but not too far down the road there is flooding in one direction and drought in the other.
