I am heading out to Togwotee with a 2008 Ski-Doo 800 Adrenaline. Do I need to make any changes to the carb. or clutch or will I be fine without making any changes. Will I just lose a little power?
You will loose a lot of power without any clutching changes. You will already be down about 30% on power due to the altitude alone. Now factor in poor clutching, you may only pull 6800-7000 rpms out there, cutting another sizable chunk off of you available power. I would definately at BARE MINIMUM drop adequite weight in the primary clutch.
I guess the most important question to answer is are you doing just trail riding or are you going to be doing some off trail. You do not need to make any carb changes. The sled is equipped with DPM and that will take care of everything. If you aren't going to be doing much off trail then just learn what your clutch Clickers are and how to use them and you will be just fine. I went out to Tog last year with my 09 summit bone stock and just used my clickers to get my RPM's back and it worked just fine. We did almost 100% off trail riding. I wound't do it again if i go back out this yea, but it worked in a Pinch. I can explain to ya what the clutch clickers are if you don't already know.....have fun out there!!
Turn clickers to 5 and ride. mikes99ss, It's an Adrenaline. Trail only unless Ryan likes to dig. Advice is: rent a mountain sled while your out there. From your profile we don't have a clue as to what your into. When you going and what do you really want out of the trip? Scenery, pic. taking, Mind boggling straight pulls up to the base of the Pinnacles? need more info.
Get the High altitude spec sheet from your Dealer for your particular Sled and Change it over if you want a good Trip. Some of these new Skidoos need a Cam change in the secondary and changing the Clickers to 5 will not keep your Rpms high enough above 6000 feet for maximum power. Lava MT lookout is over 10,000, so avoid that if you do not change over. Also the Clutch weights should be changed and maybe the Spring.
The only Doo Dealer I have gone to out there is Crooked Creek and thats a Hour Drive from Tog.
I have 4 Skidoo's with my Son's and the Renegade (Etek) and the 4tek need Cam changes.
Clutch Spring and weights cost about 70.00, then its done correctly on the Clutch part.
It isn't that hard to get to the top of Lava Mtn.
The view is spectacular. Don't miss it.Even it you're not that close on set-up, you still should be able to get up there. Granted if you don't have er running well you won't get anyplace most everything is already 8500' plus.
