Hello Sno Riders
I have an 02 800 Legend with electric start. Had a backfire and all electrical went down except electric start/reverse. Basics like fuses and connections seem in tact. I read a post discussing a particular (?) relay and another about the voltage regulator as possibles. Any assistance to identify source of problem is much appretiated. Thanks!

You need to determine if there is any power coming from the stator. The yellow wires are the power for acc. and lights. Its possible the coil (on the stator) went out. I don't know how it could be related to the backfire, other than when the generator coil went, it somehow shorted the charge coil for a second, sending a alternately timed signal to the CDI. With it running, put a volt meter on the battery terminals. Set to DC, and see if there is charging voltage at 2500+ rpm (13.5-14 volts) if it stays at 12 or less and does not change with an increase in rpm from idle, then either the coil is out or the regulator/rectifier is out.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check that out. I suppose it could be a coincidence with the backfire as she does that sometimes on cold start and never blew anything before.
