hi guys im looking at a 91 chevy 1500. with a 5.7l auto and 207k miles. i took ti for a test drive today and i noticed something weird with the oil pressure, every time i got on the gas the oil pressure went almost off the gauge but every time i let off it dropped back down to a decent pressure on the gauge. does anyone know of anything that would cause this?

How warmed up did you get the truck? My boat with the Black Scorpion 5.7 and a K10 (that I use to have) will do the same until the oil gets good and hot.

Better than low pressure.

I'm 99 percent sure it's just the oil sending unit [pressure switch in the block] those chevs from that era were famouse for doing that. anywhere from 15 to 25 bucks

thanks. ive pretty much decided not to buy that truck. he wants almost 3k for it and while it is a decent truck i cant really justify something that old for that much.
im also looking at a 98 ram 1500 with a 5.9l auto it has 200k miles and they only want 1500 for it and it has a rebuilt trans. any known issues with those other than the trans being junk for the most part?

find something with less miles on it, you are looking for trouble with 200k on it. unless you work on them yourself. you should be able to find something with less miles in the $3000 range that would last a while.

ive been looking for the last month on craigslist and i cant find anything close to that. anything under 3k that is a 90 or newer almost always has 200k or more. the guy is willing to give me a bit of a warranty on the dodge and he came down to 1200 today im pretty sure i can handle anything that comes up with it and ill have cash on top of it becauseim tradin my mustang in on top of it and getting close to 2k on top of it.
