98 ZL Broke off hood

So I opened the hood on my 98 ZL and broke off the 3 tabs that hold the hood to the hood hing. I sure someone has done this before. How did you fix it?

Option I see:
1. Get a few rubber hood straps and make it look like a race sled. LOL
2. Drill a few holes in the hood and attach the hind to the hood.
3 Make a bracket that will fit in the hood hing and attach to what is left of the tab on the bottom side of the hood.

Any other ideas?

If this is anything like my 98 Z 440 hood which it looks to be the same, mine came apart also. Was that piece once glued to the hood? I used automobile windshield urethane caulk to put mine back together and that was 6yrs ago and still holding excellent. That black urethane caulk is very tough and sticks to everything. Just my thought

One of our son's old girl friends hit a tree with our '98 Jag (guest/backup sled) and broke the hinge off. I couldn't find an inexpense fix so I just used a bungee cord under the hood so no one could see it. Being the spare sled, no one even thinks about opening the hood anyway but me. They just hop on and ride.

I had a 96 break like that. I used just a dab of JB weld to hold them in place. Then when that's hardened, I used some fiberglass cloth and resin. I cut narrow strips of cloth to run up the tabs first, then laid it out about 4 in. around each tab. I did three layers, and the next day spray bombed it with black paint. Turned out so well and way stronger than the original so I did my other sled before it broke.

JB Weld, that stuff works well, & as stated above, a little extra reinforcement with resin is a plus. I don't know that the fiberglass cloth is needed though. Remember, the hood is plastic. Two part Epoxy would work well too.-Mezz

My 98 zrt had a fiberglass hood, but I see the Zl's are molded plastic. The JB would prob work to reinforce the tabs if they aren't completely broke off. But if they're broke offcompletely, I'm not sure. I know resin alone won't work because it's too brittle and inflexible as it's mostly a bonding agent. Either way, sand the area where the repair is the help adhesion. If using JB you could also shred up a bit of fiberglass matting and mix the fibers in with the JB to give it more structural strength.
