Serpentine belt silent or makes intermittent squeaking noise at any speed or idle. Mechanic says defective belts on market now & not worth spending money to replace as could do same thing with new belt until market purges defective compound belts. Belt ok just makes noise. Is there an additive I can put on the belt to eliminate noise then reapply when it comes back? This is my daughters POS car & she has no budget & on my payroll so I'm just trying to get it to hold together until she is graduates from UWSP in 2 years.

I think CRC makes a Belt dressing or belt compound in a spray can. I don't know how long it will stop the noise but just a thought.
Clean the pulleys and belt with alchohol.
Clean the pulley and belt with rubbing alchohol. That usually does the job but Cheys are known for this. My 99 burb does the same thing and is worse cold. OEM belt is less lilkely to make noise. Anything you buy at AutoZone or Murrays will make noise eventually.

Belts will make noise especially when they begin to dry out. A silicone backed belt will be a little better. Previous answer to the thread cant hurt, cleaning the pully helps remove residue builds up. A high quality belt or an oem belt will be the best. I have a trailblazer and just went through this. I expect the noise will come back, I belong to the trailblazer forums and this is common.

I usualy just put a lil grease or oil on ,softens the belt and not dry it out
