99 ZR 600EFI Clutch or belt?

my dad owns the above mentioned sled. Took it out for the first ride of the season this past weekend and it seemed to shift up and down in RPM's while keeping the throttle at a constant clip while riding down the trail. Felt as though the sled was "switching gears" constantly. I figure it might be a clutch issue or belt, but thought I would see if anybody else had a simlar problem and/or suggestions? BTW, how the heck do you take a belt off an AC sled? I'm a doo man myself and they make a real simple tool to open the sleeves of the secondary, saw no such thing on the AC and without an owners manual to reference??? Thanks in advance for your help.

Lock the brake with the parking brake, grab the secondary roller cover and rotate it to the rear of the sled and push in. Then pull up on the belt and roll it over the outside of the shives.

I bet the weights in the primary clutch have worn bushings. The easy way to check this is look at the weights they should be spaced evenly between the towers. If they are leaning to one side then the bushings need to be changed out. There is a kit from the dealer for about 25.00 to do this it includes new bushings, pins and lock nuts. If you have not done this before it may be best to just take it to a dealer to service the clutch. it is not complicated, but the right tools make the job a lot easier.

99% belt

Pull belt and run your fingers along the sides of it. The belt is most likely dished from a parking brake SNAFU, the belt is stretched, and/or the belt is glazed. Any or all three will cause what you are describing. 1% of the time it is in the clutch itself (broken primary spring) and that really doesn't cause the exact thing you are describing but it is close.

Thank you. I'll inspect the belt, throw the replacement belt on and see if the problem goes away. If not, I guess Ill pull the primary and take it in for service for him. Thanks for the assistance.
