Reportedly Yami lost over 1 billion $ last year. They are closing some factories and laying off some people all over the world. Sled sales for Yami are such a tiny part of their total sales it would be hard to believe they would halt that end of things especially after 7 years of aggressive product development. That being said - who knows? Stranger things have happened. AC released some figures last month that said that although sales were down they had managed a profit by better management. Rumors around here (70 miles away) are that AC has burned through whatever reserves they had and are on the edge. Again -who knows? One thing they both have going for them is that neither produced a whole bunch of new stuff for this year. With all the snow nationwide a lot of old inventory went away that really need to. I have seen very few new sleds of any brand out on the trails this year. It would be a scary business to be in even in the best of times. Time will tell. It always does.

I don't think Yamaha is going under their sales may be down a little with the price they are putting on their new sleds but they still make the best quality. However, Artic Cat keeps making junk and that can only go on for so long before they are out of business, the same can be said for Polaris. When you buy a product that has a very short use period, 2 or 3 months a year, you want some thing dependable, not something that going to sit in a repair shop while you watch the snow melt. I know this does not answer your question about rumor just my personal opinon.

i think that the arctic cat newer ones are junk...and yamaha arnt that great either...there new ones take 1 hour to change the plugs... the best quality wise is ski doo or polaris because you cant kill an indy and also on my 92 ski doo formula plus 583, i will have 9,000 miles after tonight

Only if Yamaha & Polaris choose NOT to make snowmobiles. AC needs snowmobile sales to stay alive. Doo not sure if they need to pay Canadian Gov back or not for their bailout last year. All 4 had very bad revenue years much like USA auto industry. Prices going way up for all 4 in 2011 for new sleds & I'm not sure we riders will pay what they want & the OEMs say they need. My call is we will see more sleds like the Shift in 2012 back to cookie cutter basics we can all afford. Market is changing fast now & not much non current inventory at least for Yamaha. Not a good time to have a lot of non currents sitting around or poochie BAD engines that have engineering problems with pissed off customers & warranty problems. We may only be left with 2 OEMs in a year or 2 so pick yout new sled carefully not sure the market can support 4.

It may take an hour to change the plugs but it is a good thing it doesn't need to be done every year. Yamaha has to be the highest quality engine made. The only gripe about them is there skies and handling. The other three have good handling but have engine issues. You pick the problems you want to deal with I would rather take my chances on new skies and carbides than new engines any day.

what oem has never had issues? As soon as I hear of one that has never had a problem, that is the one I am buying.

I haven't played with those new e-teks but have looked under the hood and changin those plugs don't look like a 5 minute job no more either..I think changin plugs is becoming a thing of the past.

Have not changed my plugs in 6000 miles on my Yamaha 150 since Jan 08 when I bought it. Why is this even a question? You don't change plugs on a Yam 4s injected....just like your car. You need big miles to change plugs & still runs good. Plug changing is a 2s thing not 4s. Maybe you 2s guys don't know this yet? Time to do it who cares when you don't need to do it?

The Arctic Cat new ones are far from junk. Plugs are not a problem and yes they can be changed in about 5 Min.

The Yami owner's manual (at least for my 3-cyl Rage and Vector) says to "remove and inspect" the spark plugs every 2500 miles and 'replace if necessary'. I just replaced the plugs on the Rage at 4K miles mainly as a PM step and the old plugs looked really good and are now my spare set.

If you run the platinum tipped plugs on a FI 4S I would think they are pretty much lifetime, plats go 100K miles in a car engine and I don't see why a sled would be that much different. Maybe more often if turbo or nitrous but not for normally aspirated.
