A Perfect Game??

Should baseball reverse the call?

  • Yes. The kid deserves it and it would't have changed the outcome of the game anyways.

I still steaming about this this morning. You don't even have to be a baseball fan to understand the significance of what Armando Galarraga accomplished last night and to have it ruined by what will be considered one of the worst calls in history is so sad. Meaningless game or not, he did something that no Tiger pitcher has ever done before.

What do you guys think, should they give it to him or leave it as it stands?

LAME LAME LAME, the guy was out by a mile in baseball lingo. Twins had a blown call cost them the game last night as well. Announcers and replay showed he was out by more than this call.

Though it would be CORRECT to reverse it, it won't happen.

For the record, I voted no but I do think that they should have some sort of replay system to correct calls that could/should be disputed.

The home run replay works. I was at the Twins game last Friday, and a ball that was called a HR was reviewed, and correctly called a strike (Loud foul).

Similar to the NFL, 2 challenges a game max. Win or lose. And only on "calls", no balls and strikes, would correct ALL these issues with the mistakes umpires make. Heck, you'd think the Umpires union would want it to take the pressure off......I mean seriously, there are what, 75 games a week? I bet there wouldn't be a dozen even looked at calls per week.

Yes, the call was blown big time....they had some HUGE calls blown last year during the Yankees/Twins playoff game as well.

But, the call should not be overturned as the game is done. If they went into discussion on the spot then yes, but otherwise nope.

I heard some guys on the radio yapping on the idea of letting the coaches have a one time review per game...interesting thought as long as it is only one time.

I just read the Chevy gave the kid a new corvette because of the call....*** is that. Seriously, what a joke and waste of money by government motors.

The ump did what he should have and that was apologize. Then it should be end of story, next game.

Haven't you ever heard that before? That was their marketing campaign years ago.

Waste of money? Nah, cheap marketing! Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolet... media mentions, press coverage, good feeling about Chevy...Waste of money? Nope! Damn cheap PR and a shrewd move for a Detroit company and a Detroit player.

Shrewd move for the $30-$40 grand cost of goods, big ROI on that spend.

depends on who they are marketing too....surely doesn't make me want to buy a car from them...I am in the market and couldn't be farther away from Chevy and that is all I use to drive until my last car, best car I have bought yet. Hearing this, they keep on pushing farther.

Brand imaging is different than short term purchase intent. This is brand imaging, it affects the emotional portion of a brand...how people feel about your brand. There is absolutely no belief that giving a pitcher a Corvette today will make you buy a Silverado tomorrow.

Brand imaging is continuous, certainly a Detroit company giving a Detroit pitcher an American made car to make him feel better will enhance the brand image for minimal money. Would have worked just as well for a Mustang, probably would have backfired for an import.

There is someone from the GM PR agency who is getting a steak dinner tonight!

It is a bummer that Galarraga won't get that feat in the record books. What a sport he was & what a humble guy, & my hat is off to the ump for manning up & admitting that he made a bad call & appologize for it, publicly. At this point, I don't think it matters whether this goes in the record books as a perfect game, because we all know it was & it will be remembered that way for a long long time. Not to mention, this was a true example of sportsmanship. Something that is really lacking in the world of sports today.-Mezz
