So, my son Daniel is out floating around on a aircraft carrier (USS Harry Truman) on a 9 month deployment. I have been emailing back and forth with him since he left last Mon. Last letter I was asking him where he was and he says:

I couldn't tell you. I really have no idea. I have some crazy news though. The biggest news I have ever received in the Navy. Today we got our evaluations. Out of 100 airman in my division, I am ranked number 4. That is outstanding. I received an EP on my evaluation. That means Early Promotion. So when I take the test in September for Petty Officer Third Class, I am guaranteed to pass and advance. This EP grade gives me 90 freaking points on the test. I only need 140 points to pass. Then if that wasn't good enough. I received a letter of commendation from our Admiral thanking me for all the hard work I did during my time cranking with the cooks and cleaning up after the officers. That letter is an award and gives me another point on the test. I can't not make it. This is nuts. I wanted to share that. I should be coming home as AO3 Schoeberlein. Petty Officer Schoeberlein. No more Airman. Yee haw.

Way to go Daniel, and pat yourself on the back too Lenny. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, you and your wife raised him well and I'm sure continue to be great role models for him at this stage of his life and marriage.

tanks Gary, He's more of a man I'll ever be and I actually mean that. He has avoided all the crap I jumped right into. He takes after his mother in the sense department. Here he is the day he was shoving off.

Hey Lenny, Daniel sure deserves to be proud of that accomplishment, ditto for mom & dad, who obviously "brung him up right". I'm feeling kinda proud myself, knowing that we have such a fine young man serving our country.

thanks everybody, your words mean a lot. Daniel has a determination that is strong. He really want's to please when h is given orders or direction. He is a quiet guy but when in familiar company he is extra outgoing and just a fun guy, like his mom. When put to task he is determined and focused. I really am so happy for him in how he has developed and really taken his time in the military seriously. Even when he was in grade school he was always for the weaker guy. I can remember numerous situations where he came home from school and told me he had a close call with the loud trouble maker kids where he protected a special needs kids who was being tormented,,,or a kid from a poor family who was being picked on. This an example of him standing firm on following his heart as to what is right and wrong. When Daniel graduated from highschool the principle said he was going to miss Daniel greatly as he was a beacon of light which the principle said was rare these days in the public school. I can only remember 1 lie he had ever told me and he did such a poor job at that I read him like a book and he immediately confessed. Daniel is a special guy and his faith I believe,,,, is where credit is due. Thanks be to God for his great unfailing love that covers us!

Wow! Thats great news Lenny. We have something in common my friend, besides snowmobiling, lol. We are both proud fathers of our children serving in the US Navy. My daughter Kristin, recently won 3 awards, Junior Sailor of the Quarter on her ship, (The US Howard), Destroyer Squadron, and Comand Carrier Strike Group. I am so proud of her, a feeling Lenny that you can relate too also. She is presently a Second Class Petty Officer and is taking the test for First Class this September. Lenny, it is such a great feeling to know our children have the values and the respect that we tried to teach them when they were young. I toast you my friend on Daniel's accomplishments and look forward to hearing more. If I make it up by Keiths for the trail work, we are going to have a beer or two together and say a toast to our Sailors.
