coming up to Tomohawk on the 13th for the first time ever (in Tomohawk).. going to backpack to Hurley and Im thinking, we were up there (Mercer) a couple of weeks ago base was great snow was pretty good. Now, with no snow in the forecast Im wondering how long can we ride on just the base? where the F is the snow, yeah I know theres going to be some LES in the UP, but seriously.... That forecast graphic is depressing. I figured waiting til the 13th would give a chance for some snows to come in, now I think maybe we should have went sooner than later.

We just finished 4 days of riding (628 total miles) in and around the area. I base out of Manitowish Waters, WI and all I can say is that 90% of our riding was on almost perfect trails. We were in Vilas, Iron, Ashland, Oneida, and Price counties. My advice is to go into Price, Ashland, and Iron counties where the base is great and their is not a lot of traffic. If you travel in the Minoqua, Boulder, St. Germain, Manitowish, Hurley, Mercer bar areas the trails will be beat down and don't recover until around Tuesday after the weekend is over. It is supposed to be 42 degrees in Manitowish Waters on Super Bowl Sunday so trails will around the towns and bars will be beat. Also some of the road trails are scraped pretty clean by the plows and until we get more snow they will be bare after this weekend. Typically your week is good but even I won't predict what happens with regard to more snow. All I am saying is go where nobody goes and you should have some great riding.

A word of caution, Stay off the lakes unless you know them, they will get slushy and open up water holes again after Sunday. We experienced that on some lakes that I know very well on well traveled marked lake trails.

Hope your week is good for you.
