Headed to Tog in January, I have never been riding in the mountains before. What needs to be done to my sled for the mountains. I am borrowing it to a friend who is going to trail ride out there. (08 Doo Gade X 800R)

Thanks!!!!!

If you are JUST going to ride trails then adjust the clickers and enjoy. The DPM will take care of the fuel ratio's automaticly. You will lose some power with the altitude obviously but for JUST trails you will be fine. If you are going to go off trail then you might want to do some clutching. There will be lots of people that will chime in and tell you LOTS of things you should do but to just ride trail you don't need to do anything

St. Boni Motorsports has all the high altitude specs you need for Ski-Doo sleds.

Just click on the 2008 Model link, find your model and all the info will be there. The only recommended changes for high altitude on your model is lighter pins in your clutch and setting the clutch clicker to 5 if riding around 10,000 feet.

If you want it to run good, follow the Doo High altitude spec sheet. Lighter (hollow) Pins are a must. I have been out there many times and the ones that don't change over are not happy with their Sled when they get there. Remember a 100 MPH Sled will only do 80 out there if its changed over.

There are some very steep Hills on the Trails and everyone likes to climb Lava Mtn and 10000 Ft is pretty high to not change the Clutch over.

X2.
If you want him to enjoy some off trail riding, then the clutching to the st.boni specs will be a fairly inexpensive for the benefits.

Mountain riding can be very 'unfriendly' to your sleds well being. Hope this is a good friend, with lots of spare cash and mechanical know how.
