Always out of gas

Has anyone else have this problem? I fuel up and ride. After a while, the gas gage is showing that I'm running out of gas. I find a station, and refuel, to the bottom of the neck. I look at the gas pump and it shows that I have one taken on maybe 4 1/2 to 5 gallons. Is my gage that far off of is that the norm?

Old skool manual gage or electronic? Either way, they are notorious for being in-accurate, namely the manual. And it makes a huge difference if the sled is on an incline or something like that. Sitting on completely level ground, my (manual) gage seems accurate for the most part.

Mine starts flashing when I'm seven gallons down. I used to panic. Now I just take the cap off and look.

I don't really trust any gauge. I figure my fuel capacity and my mpg and plan accordingly. Usually plan to fill up every 90 miles or so. (Piped '03 Viper).

Last month my low fuel light came on. The sled is 2010 Yamaha Vector. I ran it for another 13 miles filled it the next day it took 7.4 gallons my tank is 9.4 I ran 135 miles that is 18.2 MPG.

Maybe it has to do with the upper part of the tank is narrower than the lower part of the tank (Like a lot of the "old" sleds). That will throw your guage off quickly.

If you are going by the guage alone, you are not paying attention to enough.
