Always wear your helmet!

Had a little OTB action on my mtn bike Sunday night. Had a pedal strike on a rock on a fast downhill section and over the bars I went. Bounced along the trail on my head/face/shoulder for 15-20' and just layed there for a minute or so to determine if I was OK. Thought I had blood running down my face but when I took of my helmet to check it was just sweat. Then I looked at my helmet. Holy crap, broken in 3 places. So I can't emphasize enough if you're riding a bike/snowmobile/motorcycle/ATV always wear a helmet. It may sound silly but I really feel mine saved me from serious injury.

I picked up a new lid last night that has a accelerometer built into it that connects to your bluetooth on your phone and if it senses a immediate stop and no movement via GPS it will send a text and your location to your emergency contact. So along with the Apple watch doing that also I now have my helmet calling for help. (kind of like on-star) Its reassuring as I almost always ride alone.

Good reminder. One of my co-workers was on a pit bike buzzing around the infield of a track (No helmet), and out of no where a car popped out and smacked her..... She hasn't been in the office for over a month now. Pretty concerned....
Yeah, when I worked for Polaris in the motorcycle group we had a group of development techs that all rode pit bikes and one of them got his face smashed up pretty good. Broken cheek bone, eye socket, etc... They say if your head hits the pavement from a 25 MPH crash your likely to be dead.

also remember that a helmet is ONLY made to handle ONE impact, and then there supposed to be replaced!
and that they actually have expiration dates on them, and should be replaced as time passes !

Mine definitely got replaced!

lost a good friend a few years back on an organized scooter ride around the Milwaukee area. He ran into a person in front of him while coming to a stop from maybe 20 MPH, fell off the scooter, landed head on curb. He is no longer with us. Pretty sad....

I always wear a helmet when riding. In 2010, I was rear ended by a kid in a S10 pickup while riding my Goldwing. I was thrown clear and landed about 15 feet away on the median. Gashed my leg pretty bad (still have the scar). When paramedics arrived, they did the finger test and had me recite some words and count to 10. Then he carefully pulled my helmet off. The helmet had a large gash in the top. Paramedic asked if that was there prior to the accident. I said no. He then said that I would have not survived this crash without a helmet.

Definitely the most scariest part of riding a motorcycle. The other drivers around you not paying attention and it gotten 100x worse since cell phones.
