It just boggles my mind what some people can do. So life like. None of these were done with a CNC, but they can do some pretty cool things too!

Then there are the folks who are such die-hard trend followers (apologies to anyone that this might apply to) that they will take a flawless mahogany chest of drawers or side board and PAINT IT! :confused3:

To each their own I guess.

I had a customer a few years ago hand me what i thought was a fish mount, when he was handing it to me I was thinking to myself why the heck would someone mount such a small fish? Come to find out he was a wood carver and even airbrushed the color on! He showed me some of his other work and I was floored at how life like they were. The guy did not even begin carving until retirement. I am also against painting wood, you can hardly get premium prices out of houses around here without painted trim the last few years.

There is a famous carver who I believe is autistic and carves some incredible stuff. He has said that the sculptures are already there and all he does is remove the wood to reveal them.

Me? It's a miracle I can cut cordwood.

About 15 years ago in The Pioneer Bar in Wisc there was a guy there using a Dremel with an etching bit drawing evergreen trees on bar glasses for 5 bucks or something like that. He was from one of the sandy countries and could hardly speak English. He would be watching TV while he was etching these glasses. One glass took him about a minute to do. It was amazing. Before he left Charlie had him etch one of the windows on the front of the bar. He did a winter scene and some lettering all from the inside. Which to make it look right on the outside he did it all in reverse. Charlie said it took him about an hour to do. It is still there if anybody ever goes to The Pioneer.
