American T.V. going oiut of business

Back in 1987, I remember 'Crazy T.V. Lenny' screaming at me on T.V. to come on down and buy a new piece of electronics. So I did, I bought a 'large screen' 27" NEC color T.V. from American in Appleton, complete with price guarantee. The following Sunday I found an ad in the Post Crescent for the same television but from a competitor, the price was around $79 less expensive. I took the add to American and got the difference refunded plus an addition 20%. To top things off, I got a 20# box of steaks thrown in, they were running a promo giving away steaks with a minimum purchase. So let's see, 120% price guarantee and steaks, looks like I got the better deal here.

Moved all my stereo buying business from Sound World/Appleton to American T.V. in the early 1980's when my favorite electronic salesman Pete Van _________(fill in the blank with a Dutch name) switched from Sound World to American T.V. I know American had some questionable business practices and quality issues lately, but they sure were the leader for a long time, sad to see them go.

I used to watch "Crazy TV Lenny" when I was going to school in Madison. He had a late night TV show after the bars closed and the guy was Nuts!

Anyway, if you haven't heard the story... back in the 70's Lenny traded in his wife for a newer model and the wife took him to court in the worst way. She got the house, boats, cars, darn near everything. But to get in the last word Crazy TV Lenny threw in a Free Bike to seal the deal. True Story!

Yep remember buy this & that & get a bike. I would say "you keep the bike & knock $100 off" worked sometimes crazy place in late 70s early 80s you could wheel & deal if you knew how or had the balls to ask. Sales people didn't know their butt from hole in the ground about products some would run away if you asked questions just looking for the "sucker" ready pull cc out.lol Good times!!:)

Here's the funny side. Go to Madison.com for the story. Most of the nutty commenters are blaming it on Scott Walker. Yes, liberalism is a disease down there.
That's the wacky side of Madison. I spent the first 40 years of life in the Madison area. Some of his commercials got real old after years of them.

The one in Marquette closed a year or 2 ago. Things started going downhill when they did less home electronics and more furniture. Huge mistake.
