Somebody has some Explaining to Do...The following link takes you to a series of photos of an F16 running off the end of a runway in Oshkosh on Thursday. The pilot came in too hot and couldn't make the turn at the end of the runway.

Coincidentally, there's not one of us on this site that hasn't done the same thing with our snowmobiles at one time. Come into a corner too fast and slide off in to the Pickers! That's bad enough, but if you're driving one of these, well it's just gonna ruin your day.

I heard it was just broken nose gear but the pictures show the nose broken as well.

There was a second run-off hours later...not a good day at OSH

Korean War era fighter jet runs off runway this afternoon at AirVenture
A Korean War era fighter jet went off the north runway Thursday afternoon at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, but those who saw it do not think it suffered damage.

The plane, an FJ4, went off the runway about 3:15 p.m.

“It landed too fast or too late or lost its brakes,” said Jason Wodack of Killeen, Texas.

Jeff Leisz, of Bloomington, Ind., said the plane ran off on to the grass and taxied out.

“It didn’t appear to be damaged,” he said.

It was the second incident Thursday where a fighter jet went off the north runway. An F-16 went off the runway about 11:20 a.m.

Looks like he is still on the throttle at impact of nose pic ?

I would think that he was not on the throttle but the turbine was still spinning and what you see is crap being sccoped up, there was a lot of moisture in the ground so I'm guessing that is what it is, if there where more shots I'm sure you would see it get dark with dirt coming out the back. I saw in another article of the plane at rest and a thin line of smoke billow up which is most likely steam hitting the hot turbine.

It will be more than 2 million, that engine is toast, and quite a bit of fuselage damage. It only take a rock the size of a dime to take out a turbine and he's got a whole intake full of crap, somebody is gonna lose some rank over that.

Glad the pilot walked away, my sister and her husband flew into that show years ago, they said it looked like a Hornets nest that broke open.
