An insurance question

Does anyone bother to cancel their insurance coverage after the season, and then reinstate it at the start of the next season?

I do it every year......but not all the coverage, just the liability.......figure sleds aren't going to run into anything while they're stored.......simple phone call to my agent at the start of the season (actually, she usually calls me)

With progressive, I keep comprehensive on year-round and just add liability and collision the weeks I am riding. Usually change the policy online but if I forget I just call on way up

Full coverage when I ride and i switch it to storage coverage during the offseason. Always ask your provider what each policy offers. My storage policy covers damage from things like fire, flooding, something falling on it, bascially whatever happens to it during the offseason without being ridden. Theft is also covered. It is substantially cheaper.

I wouldn't ride without Liability, too many hazards. Mine is full coverage for the year with no option for dropping Liability. I was told, "we're offering a very competitive rate already" blah, blah, blah. I'm paying 190 for the year.

I think it depends on your insurance company and if they allow it. The response above is the carrier saying the rate/premium contemplates the seasonal use. Also motorcycles and boats are in the same category, in fact some boats have a automatic lay up period 11/1-4/1. Personally I just leave it alone.

Definetely depends on the insurance carrier. The insurance companies know snowmobiles are seasonal use and many carriers price out the policies based on seasonal use and do not allow for changes in coverage types through out the seasons. Check with your agent and see. With that being said, I only carry liability. Its $17 a year to add unscheduled recreational vehicles to my umbrella policy. Saved me enough over the years in premiums to purchase several new toys. If I have a loss, well then that is on my dime but haven't had one over 20 years.

State Fraud showed me once how the premium is set heavily over the winter months and near nothing in the summer months so I don't bother changing anything.

Exactly what I have been told too. I have Nationwide and pay $248 a year for my 07 f8, 09 Crossfire 800, and 2014 NEO trailer, full coverage on everything. I asked about the storage option and was told it was already factored into the rate so it wasn't an option. With what I pay I believe him.

I pay about $110 per year, 250 deductible comp and collision and 250000/500000 liability. No option to drop during layup besides I don't have to remember to stop and start it as needed.

Does anyone use auto-owners insurance ( it would be out of michigan if that makes a difference) I have them on my camp property wondering how they would be for the toys. Have am-fam now thinking about a change.

I have been with them since 1978. No issues. Good rates. The agent is every bit as important as the Ins. Co.
