This is the news release on the fatal sled accident in Grayling near Camp Grayling.
Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield states that on Sunday, January 22nd, 2012 at approximately 11:55am, Deputies were dispatched to a snowmobile vs. Pickup accident that occurred on a logging road located west of Military Road in Beaver Creek Township.
Upon arrival, MMR personnel and deputies found the victim to be deceas...ed. The victim, a 45 year old Plymouth, Mi. resident was traveling in a westerly direction at a high rate of speed when he rounded a corner (left of center) and collided with an oncoming pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Excessive speed is believed to be the major factor in this crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. This accident remains under investigation.
Mobile Medical Response personnel along with the Beaver Creek Township Fire Department and DNR conservation officers assisted deputies with this incident.
