Anybody know of any rope swings in U.P. or northern WI?

Growing up in New England, we had a rope swing on just about every lake with a tree next to it. I was having a conversation with my kids and realized that they had never experienced the thrill of a good, fast and high rope swing! Since there are no trees or clean lakes more than 3 feet deep in this God awful state of Illinois, I wondered if there are any up north?

I can remember a couple but back in PA. There was also a old train bridge tressel we would jump from into the delaware river. Then a rope swing at a place near the poconos called " red rocks ". When I moved from northern NJ to the poconos I lived in the college slums in E. stroudsburg for a couple of years. The college kids always knew a few places.

Next best thing is a " high dive " or high diving board. Found 1 of these still in existance @ Western Mi University. Used to take the kids there 10 years ago and teach them how to do " can-openers" from it. Too bad most pools have eliminated diving boards especially high dives.... I used to love those things !

There used to be a really big one on the Chippewa Flowage in one of the northern bays. High enough that it took me a few tries before I would walk the rope as far as it would go into the woods off the lake...... Not sure if its still there or not, or if someone replaced the rope. It was pretty old 10 years ago. It wasn't too hard to find during a hot summer day with all the boats and pontoons circling around the area.

I should have noted this is to the east of Hayward, WI.

Kind of, but the ones I remember you didn't jump off a picnic table. You climbed 30 ft into the tree next to the one the rope was attached, got the rope to almost horizontal, and then jumped out of said tree-lol. You let go when the rope was horizontal in the opposite direction!

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to see if I can track one of these down.

Has been a year or two since I last saw it in operation, but also on the menominee river up by kingford (just north of Cowboy Lake) is a tree angling out over the river that someone put steps on that people jump off of into the river, probably about a 15-20 foot drop.

I saw a rope swing on the Au Train River while canoeing. All I know is that the swing is located between the two bridges on Au Train Forest Road. The canoe trip takes about four hours from bridge to bridge and there are plenty of stops to rest with some sand beaches along the river.

Grapes

We never had a rope to swing on. We just swung on a grape vine untill it broke. Then a walk down the creek bed till a new one was discovered. Great times in the 50's. Kind of like the Little Rascals.

Little Fork Lake, Three Lakes, WI. But you will need a key to get the rope unlocked from the tree.

thebreeze- How about the one on Laurel in the channel before Big Stone? Only problem is it's private property and you would land right in boat traffic...

There's a good one near Big Fork, but actual location is a secret....:) (Hint- It's very close to the Nicolet NF).....

Ill get a vid up of the ropes wing at our cabin that I'm talking about. I am guessing the one near big fork, is on four mile.

The question is how many beers you need to drink before you attempt the legendary double backflip.
