Anyone remember Jakes Bar? I think it was in the Twin Lakes area. Saw it last weeek when we were up there. I always liked stopping to see his pet, I think it was a mountain lion, maybe cougar. He had some cool old stories, and he could really do alot considering his handicap. Anyone know what happened, I asssume he is no longer with us. Always a favorite spot for us back in the late 80's, early 90's.

Yep, been closed for awhile. My first time there was when one of the guys in our group broke his leg on trail 3 just before you get to Twin Lakes, and two of us rode to Jake's to call an ambulance. I was never there when the cougar was there though. The next time you are in Houghton and stop at Applebees, while you are drinking your beer, you can think of Jake's Bar. That is where the liquor license ended up at.

First time I went in there was around 83. Cougar was a baby then. Somewhere I have pic's of some of the guys in our group petting it. The next year the thing was big and he would bring it in on a leash. I'm not one to play with wild animals, unless they are cute and like to drink. "that was some years ago". Anyway some years after the cougar got big, a boy from the area vanished. I don't believe he was ever found. Some of the guys use to think the cougar got him. Anyway it use to be a good spot to stop, if you were going from Bruce Crossing to Houghton. Some years after that we made Krupp's our main place to stop at. Skylar, I'm sure Sandy must have some info on him. But with the name being Jake's you know I had to love it. Jake effect snow, ya gotta love it!!!

Was in there many times. The last time we were in there we were allowed to pour our own drinks as the owner was plowed and just did not feel like working, so he just hung out with us and talked our ears off.

then next trip up there the place was closed.

Jakes was a good stop. Never got to see the pet. I used to like to stop at the golden harp. How long has that place been closed down? I think around the same time as Jakes give or take a year.I remember the lady at the golden harp would threaten to kick people out for swearing. The one lady would only let people do I think one shot if they were riding a sled.GOOD TIMES
