took the oil pump lever off my 550 to replace the spring. It does not seam to be a stop to the to the shaft that comes out of the oil pump. Does the stops on the lever determine open and close

What Year Sled?
From 1980 through 2000, I think they all have the same oil pump.
And all the oil pumps I have seen have 2 lines engraved into the lever, and 1 line on a boss on the pump. At idle, 1 line should line up with line on boss, at full throttle, the other should line up with it. Of course, the more you open the throttle, the more the pump pumps oil. So, you can determine if the lines don't line up, if the pump is more lean or more fat.

If I knew how to attach a picture.. I could.. of my oil pump and the lines I am referring too.
Or you could send me your e-mail..
I will try to read the destruction to add a pic...

Look into the little dental mirror.. you will see 1 line on lever and 1 line on "Boss"

It is 2002 ZL but they didn't change a thing from 92. I think I have it set. OK the motor is out of the machine at this time. The lines line up after puting the spring and lever back on. Is there a starting point for the pump? Or is that bolt a valve that the more it is open the more oil? It didn't seem to be a stop to the pump?

Yeah.. I am sure it is the same pump.
There is no stop... The rotating of the lever opens an orifice larger as it is turned.
IF you didn't change the length of the connecting rod, it should be fine when you reassemble. The marks are there to confirm this.

With the connecting rod attached, the lever will stop moving, when the carbs (or throttle bodies) start and stop
