Artic cat running rich

Starts and idles, smokes heavily, getting on the throttle engine falls on its face. fuel is coming back into the air box. Seems to be running realy rich. This is a 1999 panther 440 fan cooled.

Anyone have any tips on how to deal with these older 'sleds?

Clean carbs, check needle and seat, check jet size, there should be a jetting chart on the air box. If everything is correct and you still have a problem, I would drop the main jet size down 1, and raise e clip 1 notch on needle. You should also check the air screw setting, not sure what it should be.. 3/4 out from closed maybe.

All of the above and maybe stuck choke plunger or stuck oil pump.

chock plunger stuck,or main jet fell out of the needle jet. Have seen it a few times
