Trail 2 is closed between Ashland and the Bad River Casino. It has been this way for many years. Trail 2 is open from Ashland west and from the casino east. You have to swing well south of the Indian reservation land if traveling from some place like Mercer to Ashland. Not much for riding by Ashland, you need to go well south towards Mellencamp or Clam Lake or W/NW/SW towards Bayfield County. You will find fair to good conditions if you travel in those directions from Ashland.

They will take your money in the casino all day long, but do not want you to be able to ride on their land to get to the West.

And snowmobilers still stay there! I wish they would find someplace where to stay till that trail opens, but it will be awhile. Heard they took out all the bridges.

Thinking about doing a backpack trip from Tomahawk to Ashland/Bayfield area for next weekend. Best place to stay and good sights to see? Ideas on a better route than others?
