Attaching Snowmobile Track To Trailer

We are snowmobile rookies...so pardon what might appear to be 'dumb' questions!

At times we have challenges getting our sleds completely on the trailer. Some have recommended attaching an old track to the trailer.

Is that good advice?

If so, how do you attach it to the wood to secure it. (Seems like you'd have to have very strong wood screws or a plate on the bottom of the trailer to ensure the screws do not pull the old track off?).

Welcome to the sport and JD! Wood screws w/washer if needed should work. That and throttle "touch". It'll come to you with time. Sometimes you just gotta horse 'em around.

works very well, I love the old track on mine ! I can stop at any point, when loading, and still drive right up. I work on boats and I have access to s.s. screws, they worked great, even w/out washers. I think they were# 12, and prob. used about 12-15 on each section. I just took 1 track and cut in half for my 2 place, not to mention, that they protect the bed ,esp. w/ studs

I also use tracks. Work great and a lot cheaper. On my first trailer I put the tracks so the lug was up. On the two after I put lug down. Lug down works a lot better. Sled grabs it just fine and also makes it easier if you use you trailer for other things. Plus you don't trip over the lugs and also keeps the sled a little off the bed for when the snow thaws and lets it run off. I used old plastic bed liners for ski guards. That works great also just watch youself walking on them with boots on, very slippery. Stainless screws work fine. I have never had one pull up. Get a good size one with the big button head and use a washer on it and pull it down into the track and nothing will catch it.

I have no trouble getting my sleds on the tilt trailer, but they would sometimes slide backwards, especially with ice or snow on the bed. I put 3, 18 inch strips of serpentine belt across where the track sets on each side ( secured with wood screws). No problems since. Just an idea.

If you have a snowbank near back your trailer into and drive right on your trailer without tilting it. This is much easier. Also screw 1" x 2" strips on the trailer for traction.

Attaching Track

Go to your local lumberyard\hardware store and ask them for G.R.K cabinet screws. These are the best screws in the business. The cabinet screws have a large head on them and they are star headed so they won't strip out. They are self-tapping you won't go wrong. Put lugs up it just gives you better grip.
