I know there are a lot of dog lovers here so I wanted to share the story of our new addition. We have a 15 yr old male Carolina/American Dingo that has always been the only dog in the household. Friday night my better half said they wanted to check out a craigslist ad about a dog someone was giving away. Well, I was skeptical because our dog has always been pretty territorial. Well, we met the dog, Cookie, and much to our surprise, the two dogs hit it off and we are now a 2 dog family. She is a 5 yr female who has been very well trained and taken care of. The previous owner thinks she is a Canaan Dog. Is anyone here familiar with that breed? I know it is pretty rare so really wonder how we could end of with one. However, from what I can find on the net, she sure fits the description. I can post pictures later if anyone is interested. We are still getting adjusted but aside from trying to break her habit of getting on the bed, she has been an angel and we love her. Would love to hear of any experiences with this breed. Thanks!

In reading make sure you stay the boss!! Sounds like a great dog and we need some pics!
On one hand, I've talked to a woman with the Canaan club of America and found out that it is an extremely rare breed so it is pretty unlikely that she is Canaan, but on the other hand, she nearly matches so many pictures of dogs of that breed that it makes me wonder how she can't be. It really doesn't matter because she is an awesome dog regardless of her genetics!

now that is a beautiful dog, has that super smart look
She is very smart and fortunately for us, her previous owner trained her very well. We are still figuring out all the commands that she knows but she is quick to learn new things we are teaching her. Even though she is 5 yrs old, she has a lot of energy but its just because she is a happy dog.
We are trying to break her of the habit of getting on the bed, which was allowed in her previous house but won't be in ours. We have tried putting things on the bed but she finds a way around them. Does anyone have any ideas? Overall, she has adjusted very well but this one needs work! Thanks.
