ATVing and Camping in the UP

I have never ridden quads in the yoop, and really havent rode alot on sleds there either. So I am looking for suggestions of places to ride and camp. Here's what Im looking for;

I dont really like RR grades, so if we could avoid those as much as possible. I understand we will have to ride them alittle no matter where we go, but Id like to keep it to a minimum. I dont mind some firelane roads, but we really prefer tighter twisty trails. Though we arent scared of mud, we dont go out in search of it.

Would need a campground with at least 30 amp electric and water. We will be coming up in our 38ft motorhome with a 4 place trailer behind it. So the site will have to be big enough for the MH.
Or we could camp out in the boonies somewhere, but it would have to be away from anyone that would get annoyed at us running the generator. But Im sure my wife would prefer a campground.

Last thing is, we will have at least one Polaris rzr 50" wide with us. So we would need to be on trails that allow UTVs. But from what I gather, just about all of the UP allows UTVs anyway.

The only other question I have is where can I get a detailed ATV/UTV map of the yoop? I have seen a couple online, but they only show very small trails. I am sure the yoop has more than what is being shown online. IDK if those were outdated or what?

Thanks.

Check out the Hiawatha National forest website. They have campgrounds that have electric and some that are in the booneys. The Western part of the forest is the Munising area. I plan to do a bunch of riding on the new 50" rzr there.

South of Munising some of the snowmobile trails are atv trails. Very twisty. There's some other atv only trails that I took the sled down this year (woops) that look like they'd be fun also. I've never rode an atv there, but I plan to do it this year when the cabin is finished.

Camping UP w/ quads

We go to Otter Lake Camp Ground. It is over towards Munising area. They have 30 amp plug ins. They don't have water, but they have newer shower area, and is very atv/orv friendly. While it is in hiawatha area and there is atleast one trail that is the state trail and has the width restriction, there are 1000 trails going in same direction around it. There should be a website for the place and the contact there is Zeek.

Camping & ATV trails

D's Base Camp in Toivola is a full service RV park. We are located on trail 3#. It's a great starting point. Lots of Places to see & go too. The Freda loop in the summer is a chalange with the Redridge Falls at the one end. Agate Beach is just 15 miles away. Also trail 109 to Alston big fun & twisty oh and muddy. The Keweenaw is a sight to behold in the sumer time. Hope you find what your looking for. We can be found in the Northwoods Directory, under Toivola.

Believe this total thread should be under Discussion titled ATV Chat but I'll just add to it in case a moderator can move the entire thread. We also have RV sites. We have full hook-up with 20,30 or 50 amp. $20 per day and lots of room. (also offer monthly rates) On lake for fishing when not ATVing, fish cleaning house, etc. Located-Bill Nicholls trail #3. hundreds of miles of two-track riding. Also in Northwood Directory under Twin Lakes.

Ok so there is plenty of place to park the MH, but Im still having trouble finding trails. I understand there is tons and tons of trails in the UP, but I just want to avoid the RR grades.

This past winter, we stayed at one of the peppermill places in rockland. And we rode north, because south was low snow. Basically it was 5-10 miles of trail, then trail 3 RR grade up to Houghton. We found the Freda loop, but thats basically it.

I'm not trying to come off like Im complaining, I just dont know the trail system is all. We had a hard time finding a map, actually I dont think we ever got one. But it was really early in the year too. Like first weekend in DEC.

I'm just looking for non-grade trails. I havent found any good ATV maps anywhere. I have no problem donating for a map. Is it a actual trail system, or more of a "just go wherever you want" type thing?

Please educate me on the UP trails. Thanks again.

Is trail #109 am authorized 4wheeler trail? I know #3 is. Also, I only saw the ATV trail designation on the Houghton end of the Freda Loop trail. I see trails #120 and #121 so I'm wondering if only part of the loop is atv authorized? I've
never ridden atv in Houghton County...is there a map other than that state
recreation map?
