August 8, 1882 snowstorm on Lake Michigan. Any place to confirm this?

Hi John. I found a U of MN climatology paper that list notable weather events, month-by-month. In it, they list:

"August 8, 1882 snowstorm on Lake Michigan. 6 inches of slush on ship decks. Snow
showers on shore."

Do you know of any place to verify such information? I don't imagine there are reliable sources that go back to the 1880s? I just found it to be a fun fact. Thanks!

Sorry I could not get to this sooner Matti, but looks like you got your answer!

1882 was spectacular as far as weather

When I saw all this my first thought was 'did krakatoa have something to do with it?' But alas, that exploded in August 1883. I tried a quick search to see if I could find anything online about colder than normal temps in 1884, but no go. The only thing to indicate it might have been cooler that year was that there were only 4 Atlantic Hurricanes recorded that year. But that's a stretch. Meteorologist Greg McMasters is into historic weather analysis, but it turns out he's a bit busy right now running for state rep. As a fellow scuba diver, I wish him luck.:)
