You have to wonder how this can happen?!

This sounds as a horrific crash? Yes, I for the life of me cannot figure out how this happens? I don't want to start anything here, but it was mentioned, that alcohol was possibly the cause? Very, very sad no matter the cause, or nor cause.

I am holding my opinions until further details. But would not be surprised to hear it was booze related.

Really all depends on conditions and speed. No one going to hit a groomer head on in a straight grade doing triple digits. On a tight twisty anything can happen especially especially with a fast moving group bumper to bumper. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often on tight Twistys. We have to wait for details but I hope the best for everyone involved.

But people shouldn’t be riding fast!!!! We should all be on utility sleds going 30 mph tops! Or at the least be off trail so we don’t get hit by the drunks or groomers on the trail. Especially on the weekends.

Jk :)

People can’t see how it would happen until it actually does. A lot of different ways this could happen.

I hope there were no fatalities in this accident and that everyone involved is ok, not quite sure how this can happen either. we dont really know the how or why but in response to other posts there are times and places for drinking and for speed, you have to use your head on both and if you cant handle or are unsure about either of them you dont belong using either while sledding. IMO. Thoughts and prayers to those involved...very sad

So am I understanding this correctly, that 6-7 sleds in the same group ALL hit the groomer?

Got this report from BookFace;

Have heard from 2 of the people involved in yesterdays accident with a Kalkaska groomer on the Cranberry trail. Lee has been coming into Sledheads for quite a few years with his family. Timing was perfect for this to happen as the groomer and sleds met perfectly with no advance warning. Sam was first one into the groomer bucket, he has 20 stitches, broke his FXR helmet and pick marks in his head and other people or sleds on top of him. Lee’s 2 sons both hit and one has a broken femur and the other had 3 vertabrae that I dont know if are broken or hurt, Lees wife also hit and I dont know her injuries. Lee was down the trail so he wasnt involved. There was no helicpoter called. All 4 sleds were totaled, another rider coming up on it rolled his sled. Luckily no one killed but injuries are no fun either. When I checked motel parking lots this morning the Days Inn only had one trailer there and it was Lees. They are from Ohio and he said they were going to go pick sleds up this morning. At least everyone is alive.

Wife was showing me as you posted gary. Book Face, I like! Just amazing no fatalities for sure! Sounds as one does have some real issues? Best be to them all! Just got this, "Flat, and fast trail, blind hill". Not good, one can only assume they all crested the "top" at the same time! Bad deal, thought about that very thing oh so many times!

Whoever was leading is at fault. Those following were trusting that the leader was riding under control. Actually surprised this doesn't happen more often.

Guessing he wasn’t going that fast being that it was a family riding together..likely they encountered the groomer at the worst possible place. I can think of many places on the trail I am glad I haven’t come upon a groomer heading at me...10...20..30 mph it wouldn’t matter..

They were going 30 or less. Otherwise they would all be dead. Better to take the trees rather than a groomer blade.

Here is a factual report......1000's of snowmobilers enjoyed the trails safely without a single incident this weekend....FACT!
