Hey John can you tell me what causes cold fronts like this current one Dec.2 thru 3rd.to come southeast in a long stretched out band vs. the common wall front??

I am not really sure I understand the terminology you use. I have never heard of a wall front before.

I can tell you that the system that you speak of was not purely a cold front, it was a low pressure system with a warm front out ahead of it and a trailing cold front off to the southwest. Just about all of the precip (mostly snow in this case) with this system formed along the warm front and in association with the surface low and upper air energy. Little to no precip was associated with the cold front.
