Battery for electric start on Polaris

Sometime during last season, the electric start on a 2005 Polaris 600 Classic started acting up where it would spin the starter, but wouldn't engage the flywheel (I think that is what is called a Bendix gear).

I'm pretty sure the battery just needs to be replaced.

On top of that, I'm guilty of leaving the battery in the sled all summer, so I deserve to have to buy a new one if I need to.

First, I know Auto Zone can test automotive batteries by putting a load on the battery. My first question is: can this machine also test a small power sports battery like my old one to confirm that it is good or not?

Second, new batteries. For about the same price as an Interstate Battery, I can get Fleet Farm's Road Runner brand AGM battery. AGM batteries are supposed to be superior batteries in that they are mostly maintenance free. The Interstate Battery is the traditional lead-acid battery where you have to fill the acid when required. Which would you guys recommend?

Thanks

If you plan to keep the sled for a few years, your best to buy the good maint.-free type. they wont leak, and are of superior quality. You might get 2 years out of a cheap batt. 4-5 for a good one. Its up to you. The old one is probably toast. You can try to revive it, fill with distilled water to the full line and charge slowly for a day or two. DO NOT put in more acid. you might get a little more life out of it, but I woulnt count on it.
