Battery problems

I have a 02 Ski Doo 500 fan grand touring electric start that is destroying batteries. The first battery developed a large bulge in the side of it about the size of a quarter and a half inch high. The second battery (farm and fleet brand different from first battery) developed a large hole in the side of which of course acid leaked out. I replaced that battery with a new one (same brand) and went for a ride and I noticed that this battery was developing a bulge and leaking acid again from the bottom. I would greatly appreciate any input on this matter. Thanks

Put a voltmeter on the battery before starting the engine, check voltage should be around 12.0 or maybe a little higher, then start sled and check it again...it should go up to 12.5-13 even at Idle...... Might need to elevate track and get your RPM's up above engagement speed to see what the voltage output is. I have seen voltage flare up to 14.5-15-15.5 when a battery is low but it really should be charging somewhere in the 13.5-14 volt range. If it's higher than 15 or so continuosly you're gonna keep burning up batteries.......my guess is your voltage will show much higher. Good luck -

Could a bad stator cause something like this?

Just checked the voltage on bran new battery which was 13 volts. Started it and ran for a minute and it showed 14volts. Started it again and ran for a minute and it came up too 15 volts. Was told that I could add an
additional ground wire from stator to frame to divert the voltage to battery. Has anyone done this before?

I don't think you want to run a lead direct to frame. In my opinion you would be short circuiting direct to ground. Not a good idea.

My bad, add the ground to the voltage reg. which I did and no difference in the voltage, it shot up to 15 volts so I'm assuming it's the regulator
