Bear Hunting Wisconsin Zone A

After 8 long years, I was finally awarded a Wisconsin Bear Tag. I plan to hunt some family land but was also looking to see if there was anyone here that may have used a guide to bait for you in Zone A.

I thought this was beer hunting. I think it may be time for bed.

Good luck hunting. :) I have been buying preference points in Michigan for 3 years now.
Next year or 2 I hope to get one.

Where is Zone A exactly? A few years ago, "feeding", in the Chequamegan Forest, I found cooking oil/grease soaked bread piles worked great for attracting. You should be able to find places willing to give you their old used cooking oil/grease, and there are bread outlet stores where you can get a large supply of bread products fairly cheap.

No need for a guide, the bears usually came at least every other day.

Zone A in Wisconsin includes parts Oneida, Iron, taylor, lincoln, sawyer, rusk, ashland and Price County - basically north central wisconsin. Its not that I can't get the bait as there are places that sell all kinds of stuff, its that I need someone there regularly to bait for me through the summer. I am looking for a few different areas to bait so I dont have all my eggs in one basket. Once every 7 - 8 years means to me I need to spend the money and time to do this right.

Dogs would only be a last resort for me if the baiting is not doing well through the season.

Sawyer is where I have had my "feeding" experience. And yes, you are correct, you need to keep the bait pile "active" at least once a week through the summer.

Good luck with your search for someone to help you out.

I'm in that area. Bears are thick, I see them regularly wandering around usually sniffing the ground. Should be like hunting a UPS truck, they look over at ya and keep doing what they are doing. You have to make alot noise to make them run off.

Someone around there used to keep a pile on his property just to watch them, they hunt but someplace else. DNR made them stop.

Can't leave anything out, bird feeder 12' up the side of the cabin - had muddy prints all over the siding. Delivered corn into a 90gal bin next morning it was dumped all over before i had a chance to move it inside.

7 to 8 is pretty common for Wisconsin. I will be using a bow but also packing a .357 on the hip just in case I run into an issue.
