My son and nephew finally blew the belt on the 1984 Yamaha ss. Purchased a new one from Dennis Kirk I installed it today. the sled started fine initially. but after driving a little bit it started to lurch forward with no throttle, and started to squeal. Called DK I'm convinced its the right belt. Is it the clutches? Belt looks to be sitting low on the secondary. I know nothing about clutches. Any help would be appreciated , these young guys want to ride

If you are sure that is the correct belt then my guess is you still have some of the old belt stuck in your primary, see if you find someone familiar with clutches to help you clean it out.

sounds like the belt is holding secondary open from when you changed it=have someone lift the rear of machine and someone else give it a couple of good throttle flips, this will return clutches to their normal position

X2 secondary not closing sounds like stuck open whack it with hand twist whatever then close up & flip throttle & off you go.

And if everything else checks out, might need a genuine OEM YAMAHA belt that is the correct length
