Hi, We are coming to Bergland at the end of Jan. and I wanted to get others thoughts about making the run from Bergland to Copper Harbor in a day with a 23 year old rookie (my sons first's time sledding). We would plan to spend the night and then head back. Most likely the second or third day riding.

You can ride up and back in a day.

Yes, even at a moderate pace. If you start at daylight you could ride there and back in time for a late dinner. Take your time and enjoy the land. Its some of the best riding you can do!!! The trestles on the bill Nicol's trail should be just beautiful with the loads of snow they have there right now...

good ride

I agree it is a good ride for a rookie, Nice easy trails and nice area to look at. Plenty of optioal loops or can take the straight shot.

Just my 2 cents but if your ride appen to fall on a day when the snow is like crystals from it being extremely cold it could be a long day for a rookie.Ill tell you for experienced riders that would be a long day to go round trip in a day you would do no screwin around to make that in daylight. But well planned you should have a couple of good days of ridin for that trip.Have fun b safe

For a Rookie of 23 it is doable up and back in a day. We did the power lines up as far as we could trail rode the rest up, ate lunch at the place with the cool tile floor, did Brockway Mtn. went out by the light house by Copper Harbor, got lost in a place called "Dreamland" for a few hrs. and made it back at dark. If you do the trails. It will be easy to go up and back in a day.

easy one day up and back........but its nice to take it easy and enjoy the sites and then get a cabin at the Mariner North. Great food, lots of booze just steps away from your room.
either way,its a great destination.

Bergland to Copper Harbor

It is about a 300 mile round trip, I have done it in one day but by the end of the trip you will be tired! The trails should be no problem for a rookie, just take your time and ride safe.

Thanks all for the responses. We are looking forward to this run. Not sure if we will take 1 or 2 days, but most definitely will enjoy the sites and be safe.

The only way to break in a rookie is take him/her for a long ride. That is a perfect ride. An all day ride. My rookie years were up in the UP on a 440 Fan MXZ with moguls in the afternoon. Get ready for some soreness when you get back. Take a pain reliever (tylenol, jack daniels, etc) for the night, pass out and do it again the next morning. Thats is UP snowmobiling tried and true.

I would think it's definitely doable. The only thing would be that if the "experienced" rider is old n slow, and scared to get the speedo above 50 MPH, you may want to consider making it a two day trip.
