Bergstrom Carbides

First time ordering these carbides from Bergstom, He's an extremely informational guy. I'm coming from a pair of dooly's to bergstrom (good But Ulgy) single carbide 6", 3/8'" ski saver inhancment along with shim under heel of ski boot, I'm kinda dissappointed, it seems everything that they said would fix or make easier hasn't appeared sofar, "Don't need power steering to turn" actually harder to turn the ski's now than before, "Eliminates Darting issuse" sled seems as if it finds ruts in the trail by itself, I've tried the preload in increments from the high to low spectrum, the darting was less as the preload pressure was decreased but I'm starting to think the preload is to little. Trails were good (flat) but beat up with lack of grooming for awhile (needed more snow), was an icy base and ruts were numerous. Friends we were with didn't have hardly any darting issues (same sleds). Did I make a mistake when changing from dual carbides to these single's. If I did I have 2 pairs for a polaris plastic ski Bergstrom Carbides for sale!

You might have more carbide hitting in the conditions of last week. I would loosen up the limiter strap on so it will take some ski pressure off. I had to do that with the triples and not a problem after that.

The 2 above posts are good recs. It sounds like your sled is " Hunting " or that's what I call it. It's looking to find a groove ? Trail conditions govern handling thru the day as they are always changing ( IMO ). I have had bergs ( TP's ) on 4 sleds, all a little different set with my bergs. You need to be toed out " 0 -1/8 or 1/4 ) On 2 sleds I took the ski savers off since they increase the keel depth ( this might help you instantly ) , all my sleds have the shims so that the carbide presentation is level, all sleds are a little different. Ski pressure & steering effort are interrelated, the darting and hunting is a toe in / toe out thing . If that what you have plague-ing you. Make 1 change at a time, I have yet to find a better set of skags anywhere, of the 3 sleds I have currently one has over 8k on the bergs , 1 has just under 8K, and the 1 I just sold had 5300. Hope this was helpful.

I just wish I could get mine. Scott has had his phone off the hook for the last week. I was supposed to get them last week. My buddy was down there for xmas and stopped in. He put in his order and picked them up the next day. He asked about my order and Scott couldn't even find it. He gave him my number and Scott said he would call me that day. That was the 28th of Dec. Not too happy right now.

2 things. 1 the sled sounds like it needs to be set up a little better. poss. to high of a suspension spring setting/ too much ski pressure. 2 if you go off trail you don't need carbides.

Everything was factory settings, my wifes sled I didn't adjust so I had settings to go back to. We don't go off trail, sleds are Poo Frontier Classics 2004 (maybe you see why we don't go off trail ) they have the accutrac ski's never had a darting problem with either the original carbides or the Woody's till end of last year and it was only slight, I tought the dooly's were wore down (after taking em off found they were more than wore down) the old carbides shock springs were tightned 4 threads tighter than factory settings, it didn't stop it but did help. After putting on the bergstrom's this year with shim's & ski savers the sleds were darting back & forth catching all if not most of the ruts on the trail, my wifes sled (which was factory settings) was not as bad as mine so I put my settings back to hers and the darting eased up a bit, loosened the preload to see what would happen, right now I'm 4 spring threads below factory settings, not darting as much as when this trip started & it ended before I could do more adjusting. My concerns now are (do I have enough preload pressure) I'm down to the last 5 threads on the shock sleeve. Each time I do changes I reset the rubber jounce that's on the shaft to make sure the shocks are at full travel & each time it's seated at the top.
Thanks for all the tips

I have seen 2000>2004 Indys wandering all over trail in deep loose rutted powder & riders have to travel very slow to try to hold it together. Looks very dangerous to me & I always wondered why they don't tune the severe darting & pitching for better handling? First too much front ski pressure will cause darting then pitching. Don't keep tightening front shocks instead loosen up. Harden center shock get pressure off front skis need just enough to get bite. Limter should be in loose position so you get benifit of full travel of rear suspension. Harden rear shock to point that you like the ride. Ingnor factory settings as meaning less to you & your wife. Tune for you but 1 thing at a time. I have to give you credit for trying as the only way you will learn to get best ride from your sleds. I always wanted to try & tune this out of Poos because I know exactly what you are talking about & riding looks like fun factor =zero.
