Best Balaclava to use...

I have a helmet with goggles and do a lot of snowmobile trail riding. I was wondering what would be the best balaclave to use that would block the wind from getting inbetween my goggles and sides of the helmet. We rode in cold weather and my ears got a little cold and I was wondering if there is a good balaclava to stop that. I am currently using a cheap balaclava and it doesnt do the greatest trick. I have heard the 2010 klim balaclava is great. Any agreements? Otherwise is there another affordable way?

Klim makes an excellent one. I have it, or at least the one from two years ago. There is also one that Dennis Kirk carries that has a no-fog front, made of neoprene, that works really well to protect your nose and defect your breath away. But otherwise, go with Klim.

I use a Klim Covert and love it. It is long so it covers your neck and is wind resistent. A little pricey but worth it IMO.

Most of guys around me prefer the NO FOG mast. It's neoprene so the wind doesn't get through it and covers from the bottom of your eyes to the bottom of your neck and wraps around your head with a strap that goes over the top of your head to keep if from coming down. I've never had a complaint. Keeps you warm and keeps you from fogging up. Dont skimp and try the knock offs, they dont work as well so make sure to get the original NO FOG.

I use a cheapie bacalava thats thin over the head but thicker from the ears down, along with a NO FOG mask. That works pretty good. The only problem I have is my goggles don't have a big enough foam pad to help seal the small gap between the googles and helmet.

Ya see I have one that is fleece from like the ears down but it is almost too bulky and really hard to turn your neck. Let me tell ya your muscles in your neck get a work out when turning to see if a vehicle is coming while crossing a road...I also have a thin balaclava which is a cheapy and idk it just doest work as well and it droops down into my goggles so something perferably wind proof, thin, comfotable, and warm!

Biased Opionion

Standard Klim Balaclava, List $29.99. If sales are a barometer we have sold 132 so far this season with a money back guarantee, not one returned. Personally I refuse to ride without it and I used to hate wearing a balaclava, thin and windproof.

I ride with an HJC CLX5N with a breathbox and a set of 509 goggles. Between the breathbox and the goggles there isn't much if any skin left exposed on your face. Depending on your tolerance for the cold and your comfort level you could probably get a way without a balclava on lots of days.

I have a cheap Castle balclava and another one that I can't remember the brand name of, it's thin around the top of your head and face and a bit thicker from your mouth down. Long enough that it tucks into your coat which is nice in terms of keeping cold air out.

Balclava's are usually pretty cheap. Buy a few and try them out.

You must have lowered your price Marty. MSRP is $29.99 and I thought that is what you were selling them for the last time I was in there. May want to check or be prepared to have customers say that on JD you said you were selling for $23.99. I have not seen a price that low anywhere.

IMO its not the BV its the goggles them self! I used to run okleys and would get froze bite on my face! I have sence went to 509 goggles and love them using even no BV and not had a problem with fogen! Snowmobiling is a different monster so buy gear that is made for the sport is key IMO!

I may have to try the Klim balacalva after reading this thread...sounds awesome. Until then, I will stick with my Turtle Fur. Thin on top and thick fleece around the neck keeps me warm.

Marty_kms: Thanks again for all your help last week. Your service department is top-notch. I came in last thursday with my 800R that wouldn't start. Your guys fixed it in a snap despite how busy they were, and my friend Brian dropped off his 600 e-tec the night before with the burnt mag-side piston/cylinder. Kudos to you and all the KMS staff.

OK My helmet and goggles should be arriving any day. Being a newbie I just want to clear something up. It seems that I can't go wrong with the "No Fog" mask. Here are my questions.

How easy/hard is it to take on and off during a quick break?

What about warmer days? Do you still wear it? Or when its still cold enough to need skin cover, but not real cold would I wear something thinner? Cheapy thin? or Klim? Or is the No Fog mask all I need and wear it all the time.

I just want to make sure my new helmet/goggle/baclavia set-up is a good experience.

Thanks for any suggestions advice!
