Im just wondering what the best time to come up to see the colors on an atv. And also can anyone tell me how old a child has to be to ride atvs in the U.P. My son is 14 and he has his learners permit in wi.
Peak colors are around Oct 4-12, depending on where in the Keweenaw you are. I don't know the answer to the ATV question, but see tons of local kids younger than 14 ripping around on them.
I would come up here now if you want great weather and some awesome colors. If you wait for the so-called color peak, you will more likely have colder temps, wind, rain, or snow to deal with. It's Indian summer here right now!
Peaking in Phelps today....super color.... leaves starting to fall now won't be long....early & beautiful this year! Been in 70s & sunny doesn't get better than this with sky so blue.

we atvd the first few days of oct - I would say Houghton was very close to peak and Mass was almost there, but like you said, the weather was very nice and you can't count on that in oct!
The last couple of days have been real nice. Not so today, with North wind and rain. Like the Lake Superior ship captain once said, "This is what I call living, none of your monotonous blue skies around here!"
