In concealed carry post people have been talking about animal encounters and big cats have been brought up, I have heard that they exist in the U.P. but have yet to see one. Has anyone encountered or seen one in the U.P.? and where?

I seen a cougar a couple miles south of Mole Lake 5-6 years ago. There was no doubt it was a cougar.

Going back a few years ago my buddies sled overheated around 10 pm in the middle of no where. We stopped to let it cool down and just enjoyed the peaceful night.............until - we heard the distinct growl of a cat. We both looked at each other like we could not believe what we heard. Then it did it again, but much, much closer. By the 3rd time it growled, it had to be within 20 yards of us, but could not see it due to the heavy pines. We bolted.

Not sure if it was a cougar or a bobcat. Most bobcats run from humans very quickly. I didn't stick around to find out why this cat was not afraid of us.

We were about 40 mile outside of Muni.

Last year I saw one crossing the road in front of car. A black one! I know 100% what I saw.
I have a friend in town who knows of a den with cubs. They are out there for sure. They hear you and avoid.
I would not htink one would ever jump or attack you. Snowmobiles are noisy.

About 3 years ago I saw one in the parking lot of Sunset Haven Resort in Phillips Wi. The next day we saw a good sized wolf out on the trail. They are there for sure.

DNR says they aren't there, but in the deer regulations it says you can't shoot them. I've seen bear (late fall), cats, and wolves.
