Looking out my window I say 7" so far. I for sure need to plow! More accumulation today with the snow warning ending tonight at 1 AM. Second good dump of the season. This snow now is LE and last weeks was system snow. I'll try an get a few pics up later!

Maybe it's just wishful thinking but it seems like this winter has a different feel to it. In northern MN we picked up another 6" last night on top of the 8" we got last Saturday. Been a long time since I've seen that much snow this early. Swamps are going to be slow to freeze though.

With the forecast temps being what they are I think Lenny has reason to be optimistic about the snowfall in the near future. Looking forward to some U.P. snowfall shots.

LOL ya never seen first freeze up either. It just so different from the last few years. Could we have a real winter ahead of us?? It was 70 degrees last year at this time!

Feels as though in a few weeks I will have my pick of locations to head north and ride!! Nothing like scratching that inch in early December.

Sorry, always forget to take some for those have to stare at brown when it snows up here! Had to break out the winter gear for work today (wind was still a little rude, but not too bad), but sure was pretty in out in the woods.

7-8 inches in the Houghton/Chassell area.

I'm told this is how they make the proper left hand turn in the Yoop...

Yep, that's the way it's done!
Incidentally that hapless soul is headed north on Bridge Street in Houghton and when he stops drifting he finally winds up headed west on W. Houghton Avenue (between the yellow house (since painted pale blue) and the red Sherwin Williams paint store.

I actually never had that experience, even on the lower end of Bridge Street before it was terminated at Montezuma (with the DO NOT ENTER signs disallowing northbound traffic on Bridge Street north of Montezuma Avenue).

— but I certainly did learn one thing about approaching Shelden Avenue from the south:

Q: What do you call those snowbanks on the side of the north/south streets like Dodge Street, Pewabic Street, Quincy Street and the old Bridge Street?
A: Emergency brakes.

That former last block on Bridge Street between Shelden Avenue and Montezuma Avenue was a bit of a thriller too, especially in the winter. Hella Steep? Oh yea!

Why is it named Bridge Street, you ask?
'Cuz it yoosta line up directly with the old 1905 swing bridge, as shown here in a view to the south (ca. 1959) from the Hancock side of the canal, with the old swing bridge on the left (east) side of the new (current) lift bridge.

Incidentally, 'tis interesting to see how few of those streets still go all the way down the hill to Shelden Avenue; so many have been diverted/re-routed.
