John, I don't know how to check out the lake water temp(shallow/surface). Is it running warmer than the norm, or is there a normal winter temp???

I actually do not know what the lake temp departures or even temps are, but can say that Lake Superior is wide open and ready to make some lake effect. I would suspect that the temps are probably running near average. Unless there is ice, the lake temps always settle to around 32-34 degrees for the winter, no matter what the summer, autumn or current winter is like.

This is a link to satellite sensor images of the lake temps that aren't perfect but pretty accurate I'd say. Sometimes the images show black which just means no data was captured on that shot due to cloud cover or possibly ice cover:

Lake Superior last 7 days:

Lake Erie last 7 days:

Lake Ontarior last 7 days:

Those can be used in conjunction with the link below to forecast LES (along with a bunch of other things like wind, humidity/moisture, etc).....
