Big Spring

My wife and I will be in Munising for a couple days on our way to the J.D. Ride-in. We're thinking of taking a ride down to Big Spring to check it out. Can any of you who have been there tell me if it's worth the ride down there? Thanks.

I think it's worth it. I would take trail 7 south, then go back the way you came. We did the loop from cr440 and back north to jackpine last weekend. I can't remember the trail number that goes north but that trail needs more snow bad. That was even before the rain and drizzle. The trail going from cr440 to camel riders may not be that great either but at least they groom it.

We never did see any fish there! I would like too sometime.

One more big springs pic. Looking down through the center of the raft shown above. It's 25 feet deep where the pic is taken.

We were down there a week ago and the trails did need snow.
I would go down there from the Buckhorn south and come back the same way.
If the barge isn't frozen in, take it for a ride across the pond and back.
Yes, there are fish down there. Just look throught the center of the barge.

We're excited to be able to see this! I think we're just going to drive there on our way to Munising tomorrow instead of riding down there.

Is that area even rideable right now?

Got a group heading to Munising on Thursday & was thinking of heading that way...

We rode down last Wednesday and the trails down in the area are very thin and brown.

The weather has been warm since we rode it so good luck.

The barge never freezes.....water temp is too warm......very cold to the touch but too warm to freeze

Edit: and sometimes the fish are all out in the big lake........last 3 yrs every time I've been there = no fish......usually there's hundreds

You gotta love those constant temperature springs. The perfect habitat for trout. That is one reason I love the Hiawatha so much!
