About 6-7 years ago we stayed in Deadwood in January. There were very few sleds, other than the 6 of us. Trails were excellent, I think we covered most of them 3 times or so.

does anyone know if clutching and/or rejetting is a must or can you get by with taking our sleds from the midwest to sd at their elevation? thanks.

We didn't do any clutching and it seemed fine. I have an EFI so no jetting. The sled ran super.

Great info guys!! I would prefer to stay at the Lodge myself because of the trails in that area that look to be fab!!! I have printed the maps of the net and got a good listing from another site with all the lodging choices. Like to go out in late December. Do we have to buy permits for Wisconsin sleds???

I don't remember if you need a permit or not. We did not get one, that much I do remember.

I am interested in this also. Another thing, do short tracks go ok in this area?

House to Rent

I see there are several Houses available out there to rent. Has anyone rented a House in the Black Hills with Trail access?

LongTrack,

I just signed the contract tonight on our rental (Shannon Heberling
Black Hills Vacation Homes www.blackhillsvacationhomes.com
605-722-9950) Shannon was a huge help! We rented a cabin that we can ride from, in fact we can also ski in ski out. This will be our first trip to the Blackhills ( Dec 27- Jan 1st) We rented the "Roth Chalet" It shows the cabin 15 miles outside of Lead. when are you looking at going?

What's the riding like near Rec Springs? Says they have 350 miles of trails. We do 90% of our riding in the UP, NW Wis, or MN. Been to Quebec once. Been to the Togwotee once. The group wants to go to Togwotee and rent sleds, and I'm trying to find ways to keep the costs down. So I was thinking Rec Springs with our short tracks. Sounds like all we'll have to do is rejet. Is there good off-trail riding here? Is it easy to find? Can we have fun off trail here with short tracks? Thanks...
