Boulder/Lando/Manitowish/Mercer Report

Road the area the last few days. BBBBRRRRRR!! Hats off to Boulder Jct. best trails in the area w/out heading to the UP. 8 and 2 Manitowish to Boulder both fantastic. 15 Boulder to Presque Isle pretty good. 6 Presque Isle to Manitowish good for a while then horrible last 5 miles or so in to Manitowish. 8 and some other trails towards Lando were all great. 8 out of Manitowish up to 17 to Mercer not so good. 12 & 13 towards Upson area really bad. Plenty of snow, just was not groomed. Lakes are hit or miss. Don't think Minocqua is marked yet. Cisco Chain by Bents is marked. Looked like some slushy areas. Avoided the lake the first few days here on Manitowish. Saw some tracks yesterday so buzzed across with flipper to the bars. Made it but don't know that I recommend it. Good amount of slush out there. Probably OK but don't want anyone venturing out based on my report.

I second the report here but would like to add St Germain to the list they really have there act together grooming at night and trails were really good with the amount of snow. Rode to Boulder then Manitowish then Presque Isle then back down to Gouches in Boulder and back to St. I would say all pretty good EXCEPT trail from Dietz gas in Manitowish to Wilderness bar on the way to Presque Isle!!!!! ALL SWAMP NEVER BEEN GROOMED ALL YEAR!!!!!! I understand it but i never saw a post anywhere that it wasn't being groomed. 4-5 miles of 2-3 foot moguls. Killed the women off our group. Presque was pretty good given the amount of sleds to north, they were getting pretty beat down considering it was on 2 PM when we went through there. All things considered i would go back today if i could, some carbide scraping but not enough to to stay home.

They said the swamp in Manitowish was supposed to be groomed this weekend. We stayed in Presque Isle and they groomed each night and were perfect in the morning. Sky View said they counted 95 sleds in the parking lot on Saturday afternoon. Just too many people for the holiday weekend but I would do it again.

I live and ride out Boulder and did not see the same conditions as noted above. I turned around yesterday after 30 miles and will wait until there is more than an inch or 2 of snow on the trails. Just my opinion.

Lots of us will ride with an inch or two on the ground. That's why carbides and hyfax are replaceable.

I agree with NHRA - ride the same areas and I turned around after 40 miles a couple weeks back, and that was too far. Riding on 1-3 inches of trail base is garbage. And they haven't got any snow since, so I'm out until they do. I don't wrench. JMO
