brake light on all the time

2001 mxz 600 brake light stays on all the time, if I disconnect it from the wire harness the switch is working as it should, checked with an ohm meter. bulb is new, followed the wires from tail light to the harness and can find no short any ideas? need help fast, trip coming soon.

try warming the sled up in a heated garage for a day, just a guess but if you have moisture it could be acting like the switch is on. Just a simple and free effort, worth a shot right?

Is it a new bulb???,,did you by chance put it in upside down??..Cant remember for sure but think I did that once..when you say the switch is working you are talking about the one under the brake handel..if you are checking only by ohms try using a small screwdriver to make sure switch is completely out...my 800 stays on periodically until the handwarmers get the bars warm and then switch loosens up.

tried that no luck. I did unplug the wire harness that goes to the gages and the brake switch worked as it should by checking with the ohm meter pluged it back in and same problem, unpluged it again and the switch did not work. I HATE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.

New bulb and it can only go in one way.

try another bulb, sometimes the filaments may touch

Try to add a splash of brakefluid to the reservoir if a little low it will cause this I believe

thanks for the feedback guys, I fixed it. just unpluged an pluged in the short wires at the socket even though they looked clean. now it works fine, thanks again.
