Good news for Vikings fans
Regardless of the outcome of the stadium debate taking place in Minnesota, it appears that the Vikings threat to move to Los Angeles has been thwarted, thus assuring that the Vikings will not be taking their place in history next to the Minneapolis Lakers in LA. This surprising turn of events was confirmed by a statement form Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa:
"While I appreciate the desire of Viking's owner Zygi Wilf to move the MN Vikings to Los Angeles, and while I am committed to continue to explore options to bring professional football back to the nation's second largest metro area, I must, on behalf of the proud people of LA, decline his offers. We simply do not want the Vikings.
Our city is a proud city, with a rich cultural heritage and many legendary accomplishments. We are proud of our past, and optimistic of our future. To bring an 0-2 football team (which will be 0-3 after today) that will finish 0-6 in the North Division to the City of Los Angeles is an insult to our heritage. We believe that the Vikings will have such a negative impact on Los Angeles that our economic growth will slow, as our citizens will sit around and complain about the Vikings, rather than going out and spending money on BMWs and Oakley sunglasses.
We wish to thank Mr. Wilf for his interest."
ESPN will continue to follow this story as Mr.Wilf has now landed in North Platte NE.
